HOW TO RECOVER FROM A HOME INVASION
Effective strategies to assist with the aftermath.
After the threats have been dealt with and your family is safe, injuries may have occurred to a family member after a violent confrontation. Keeping in mind that prevention is always better than a cure, what protective equipment should every family member have on hand to minimize potential injury? Do you need body armor? If a family member is injured, do you have the skills to save them? What about an injured intruder - do you have an obligation to treat them too? What equipment will you need to have in your first aid kits to specifically treat likely trauma injuries and how do you use them? You can also expect a range of psychological injuries that will need to be addressed by a psychologist or psychiatrist sooner rather than later.
Additionally, if your doors or windows have been damaged, how can you secure your house quickly and effectively? What materials and tools do you need on hand to do this?
After the incident is over, your legal troubles will just be starting. The responding police may not have received complete, updated information and regardless, are most likely to respond as if the threat is still active. To avoid a tragic outcome, you should not be holding a weapon when they arrive! (Watch why in the video below). With that in mind, what do you say to the 911 operator during the call? How do you interact with the police when they arrive? What are they likely to do? You need firearms insurance to protect yourself in the event you have to use your firearm for self-defense. Do you have a lawyer and are they contactable 24/7?
We can go through these points with you and give you demonstrations and answers. However, as we are not doctors, lawyers, insurance salesmen or psychologists and these are complex fields, we will show you how to find professional help so you can talk to the right people about your plans and gain further knowledge.
