TACTICAL HOME SAFETY

PERSONALIZED IN-HOME TRAINING FOR HOME DEFENSE

TRAINING

Safeguard your family with effective, personalized instruction.

We tailor our training for the specific needs of you, your family and your unique circumstances. We will do some simple assessments of current skills and start from there. Our training is precise and detailed, and we do not take shortcuts.

Becoming competent in the skills required for home defense will not happen after a 3-hour course or a day of training. Yes, you will benefit from any training, but to become proficient in the skills you need to learn will take some time and a lot of high-quality repetitions. The process your body and mind go through to develop new skills takes time and will not happen overnight. Think of it like learning any skill - buying a gi and a belt and doing a day of training does not turn you into Chuck Norris. Buying a guitar and doing a few hours of lessons will not make you play like Slash. You do not need to be relatively that good to defend your family, but any skill, whether it be a martial, sporting or musical skill, takes more than a few hours of practice for you to become competent. Shooting is no different. It requires good instruction and regular, effective practice.

As such, for the best results we recommend immersive training that will get you in the right mindset and teach you the skills systematically over the time you have to train. We have found that a 5-day training package can usually bring a complete novice to an acceptable standard where they are competent and confident enough in their shooting and tactical skills to effectively defend their home and family. We prefer to run 2-to-5-day packages, but we are able to put together training packages for any length of time. We are ultra flexible and can accommodate most requests.

However, no matter who undergoes that training, immersive block training in that manner only gives the illusion of being competent in a skill. Most military and police research has shown that after only a few weeks, most of the skills learned in the block period have gone. This is known as skill fade and preventing it requires regular follow up training. This can be done at home in only 10 or 15 minutes per day if you know how to do it!

We structure our training with theory and practical lessons, so you have complete knowledge of what to do and, even more importantly, why you are doing it. We have found that a maximum of 6 hours of actual training in an 8 hour day is about what most people can absorb effectively. We take regular breaks to maintain concentration and we recommend at least some training is run at night and outside of usual sleep patterns.

The following are some examples of training we offer:

Basic Training. (Usually done in one day, with one weapon)

If you are new to firearms, we advise you start here. Basic training is a 6-hour package taught in your own home that will focus on the basic skills you need to defend your home and your family. This will set you up to be able to go on to learn more advanced home defense skills. The training will include:

  • The legal and moral considerations of firearms and home defense.

  • Recommended tools and equipment and how to set them up.

  • Firearm safety. How your gun works and how to handle and use your firearm safely in your house and around your family.

  • Hitting the target – how to hold, aim and fire your gun. We do this with simulation using real guns with drill rounds, lasers and/or airsoft replicas.

  • Introduction to home defense tactics.

  • Basic scenario/reality-based training.

  • What to expect after an incident.

  • How to practice at home to improve your skills.

NB. We can accompany you to your local range or a legal private range to conduct coaching and training there, but we will not do this until safety and the basic handling drills have been learned with training rounds and sim first. This approach will build your skills and saves you ammunition. We also find this approach makes beginners more comfortable and confident when shooting at the range for the first time.

Intermediate/advanced training.

If you already know how to shoot, we can improve your skills. Firstly, we will run an assessment of your current skills. We start from there and we can teach you advanced weapon handling drills that can make you faster and more accurate. Additionally, you cannot separate the mental and psychological aspects of conflict from the physical skills required. This is a key aspect of all our training that cannot be ignored - it is the game changer when it comes to performance under stress. An intermediate or advanced course will include:

  • Legal and moral aspects of home defense.

  • Doors, locks, lights and alarms. We will conduct a basic security assessment of your home to identify any ways you can increase your protection.

  • Advice on ‘safe rooms’ and hardening your house.

  • How to store your firearm – keep them safe from kids and intruders but keep it accessible.

  • Stress, fear and emotions and their effect on human performance.

  • Home invasion response planning. It is essential every member of your family know the actions they need to take should something occur.

  • Advanced shooting and weapon handling skills – particularly with two weapons (AR and pistol is recommended).

  • How to move through your house tactically.

  • Communication.

  • What is the difference between cover and concealment and how does it apply in your house?

  • Dealing with the police when they arrive and how to handle your new legal troubles.

  • Medical response to the conflict. First aid and trauma kits and how to use them.

  • Arson and how to respond to it.

  • Scenario/ reality-based training.

  • Dry and live fire drills to improve various aspects of your shooting.

NB. Once again, we can accompany you to your local range or a legal private range to conduct training, noting that many ranges will just not allow you to conduct many of the techniques you will be taught such as engaging multiple targets and shooting on the move. If you have access to a private range or land to shoot on legally and safely, much more can be achieved.
